Last Weekend ...

Last Friday my friend David and I participated in the "I-mazing Race!" Since we are both fans of "Amazing Race" we couldn't wait to try it! Sadly we didn't win but we would do it again! There were eight challenges including: a book search in the library, a follow-the-leader race around the indoor track, Latin dancing in the MC, an egg hunt in the gardens, and eating popcorn at classic movie night! There were a total of nine stops on campus.

This was the first clue! They looked really cool!

I couldn't wait to open it!

The first challenge: Bowl a strike or a spare.

The third challenge: Find your puzzle, solve it, and tape it together.

The forth challenge: Pose with Thor.

Look at the pile of clues we had at the end! The poster also made it to the end.

Laura from my home town also participated. She and her partner were competition.

Saturday morning the Geology Society had planned a sledding trip at the sand dunes! But there was no snow to sled on! I love Springtime! So instead we went to Austin's farm (as originally planned) where his mother had baked us delicious potatoes, mouth watering beef stroganoff, and yummy chocolate chip cookies.

Later that same day I had a voice recital. I sang "Lied Der Mignon" by Franz Schubert. I was really nervous right before but as soon as I got on the stage I felt great! It was really cool to hear my voice echo in the Recital Hall. I'm also glad a few of my friends made it even though they all have busy schedules! And thank you Camilla for accompanying me!

Still later that same day my roommates and I had a ice cream craving.  We headed out to Pizza Pie Cafe, formerly known as Cragio's, and ordered their Cookie Monster. It stood no chance with the four of us attacking it with our spoons!

It's Rainin' Men!

The Romney Late Night finally came together last night! Armed with a two liter bottle of Cherry 7UP and a five buck pizza we partied for about an hour in the Romney Building (there was still plenty of work to get done).  We ate, we sang, we kind of danced, and we found awesome videos like "It's Rainin' Men!" by The Weather Girls on YouTube! Time well spent? I say, "Very yes."

Hydrology Field Trip

Thursday was an adventure! This day started and ended with my Hydrology Field Trip! It started with visit to the Rexburg Water Treatment Center. Second was a tour of the Hydroelectric power plant in Idaho Falls, and continued on to a stop at the Snake River Canyon in Twin Falls and a stop at Thousand Springs along the Snake River and then we spent a little time with the fish at Hagerman National & State Fish Hatchery. It was a very long day!

Taking in the breath taking sights of the poop ponds at the Water Treatment Center in Rexburg, ID.  The material is aerated in these ponds so that it can be broken down by bacteria.

A life preserver in case some unfortunate soul falls into the ponds.

This is a video of the conveyor belt that takes the water out of the poop.

The name says it all.
The Control Room at the Hydroelectric Plant could also be called the Star Wars Room.
The room with the turbines at the hydroelectric plant. Only five of us could go down  into this room at a time.
There were a lot of these signs at the hydroelectric plant.

Exciting columnar joints!

Here you can see the stratigraphy of the Snake River Canyon.

Thousand Springs has that name for a reason.
My underwater camera was handy when we took pictures of the White Sturgeon at the Fish Hatchery.

Here's Candace for scale. If you can't see it, the fish is the full width of the photo.

Hello World and Wedding

This is the start of something new! This is my first blog ever and is there a better way to start off a new blog than with an event as joyous as a wedding?

Congratulations to Melissa and Tyler!  A weekend trip to Utah turned out to be a fun reunion with old roommates as we gathered for Melissa’s wedding!  Hanging out with Anna, Briana, Emily, Stephanie, and Meg during and after the wedding was a blast!  I hope that we’ll see each other again soon!

Melissa and Tyler being very much in love.
